Malala Yousafzai has repeatedly pushed barriers and emerged as a role model for Pakistan as a whole, not just for women. The youthful leader just revealed her own production firm, Extracurricular, broadening her horizons yet again. Of course, Joyland, the current favorite in Pakistan, is the first endeavor Malala Yousafzai has undertaken as a producer.
Only a few days ago, Joyland was declared to be Pakistan’s official Oscars 2023 entry. Yousafzai is now prepared to join the project as an Executive Producer. “It makes me feel tremendously good to sponsor a movie that shows how talented Pakistani filmmakers are. Yousafzai stated in an interview that “Joyland” enables us to recognize the people closest to us for who they truly are, uncolored by our own expectations or societal bias.
Joyland was the first Pakistani picture to be chosen for the Cannes Film Festival and also won at the famous festival before it was given Oscar consideration. Since then, the movie and its crew have traveled to cities including Sydney, Melbourne, and Toronto while receiving accolades at every show.
It is presently shown in the Busan International Film Festival as part of the A Window on Asian Cinema stream as well as the BFI London Film Festival, where it is up for the Sutherland Award, which honors the most inventive and creative directorial debut.
