Elon Musk has stated that he has chosen a new CEO of Twitter Linda Yaccarino, an executive from NBCUniversal, to lead Twitter. Yaccarino, an executive at NBCUniversal with extensive experience in the advertising sector, will take over as Twitter’s CEO after his departure.
Musk had previously stated that in around six weeks, a woman will be taking over as CEO of the social media network, although he did not reveal her identity at the time.
On Friday, NBCUniversal announced that Yaccarino would be leaving her position as chairperson for global advertising and partnerships, and Musk later confirmed that Yaccarino was really his choice.
Yaccarino has been at NBCUniversal for over 12 years, holding positions such as chair for advertising and client partnerships and president of cable entertainment and digital advertising sales, according to her LinkedIn profile. Yaccarino spent nearly two decades with the international media conglomerate Turner before joining NBC.
Last month, Yaccarino interviewed Musk in front of hundreds of marketers on a stage in Miami.
The reason for Yaccarino’s Friday resignation from NBCUniversal was not given in the company’s press statement, but the news of her departure sparked rumors that she would be joining Twitter.
Even though he has been operating Twitter since he purchased it in October, Musk has always maintained that he is not the company’s permanent CEO. On Thursday, the billionaire entrepreneur announced that he would be taking on the additional responsibilities of Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer.
