Babar Azam Unseats Shubman Gill to Regain Top ODI Spot

Pakistan’s top batsman and former captain, Babar Azam, has regained the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen, dethroning India’s Shubman Gill. Azam has amassed 824 points, 14 more than Gill’s 810. Interestingly, Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma occupy the third and fourth spots on the list, respectively. Azam’s ascension to the top position came after more than a month of Gill’s reign and after the latter was rested for the ongoing Proteas series.

In the T20I rankings for bowlers, England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid has taken the top spot from Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and India’s Ravi Bishnoi. Rashid is only the second player from England to become the No. 1 T20I bowler after off-spinner Graeme Swann held the position more than a decade ago.

In other news, after scoring a quick century in the final match of India’s series against South Africa, Surya Kumar Yadav extended his lead by 100 rating points in the T20I. Meanwhile, Australia’s Usman Khawaja has moved up three places to the fourth spot in the Test and is within striking distance of the top-ranked Kane Williamson after his recent performance against Pakistan. Khawaja’s teammate, David Warner, has also jumped nine spots to 27th, and Mitchell Marsh has improved 12 places to equal 68th after a good performance against Pakistan.

In the Test bowler’s rankings, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins has moved up one place to third, Nathan Lyon has jumped three spots to fifth, Mitchell Starc has risen two places to eighth, and Josh Hazlewood has climbed two spots to 10th. India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin continues to hold sway at the top.
