Nearly all of us know Nokia. It was practically our first cell phone that we ever owned as a child. The internet gave enough credit to the indestructible Nokia phones through its memes and jokes. Nokia’s manufacturer’s name is HMD Global which is a Finnish mobile phone company.
The company has followed some interesting developments as back in 2014, its mobile phone business was sold to Microsoft, and it was then bought back in 2016. The company started launching its Nokia series and ever since, its operations haven’t ground to a halt. However, recently Nokia phones have been banned from European markets. The news might come as shocking to the avid Nokia users and for a good reason. Nokia has a good market in EU countries. To fathom such a thing happening can only invite more food for thought regarding the laws of EU countries. There is a good reason behind it.
HMD Global had recently rolled out the Nokia G Series, C Series and X Series, and they were ready to be launched worldwide. However, VoiceAgesEVS LLC filed a lawsuit against HMD Global. According to VoiceAgesEVS LLC, HMG Global has used a VoLTE protocol without any permission. This protocol is the practice of packetizing voice over the Internet Protocol and transporting both the signaling and media components over 4G LTE data. VoiceAgesEVS LLC is the company that issues and licenses global essential patent portfolio which is related to voice and audio technologies for smartphones and other mobiles.
This company has also raised issues with Apple, Lenovo and TCL. However, their dispute has been settled unlike HMD Global because the company didn’t seek their permission to use voice standards. This got the Nokia mobile phone manufacturing company banned in the EU region. The sales ban doesn’t bode well for HMD Global as it had recently seen a positive growth in its manufactured units.
