As part of its efforts to turn the popular series into a multifaceted franchise, Netflix is now developing an animated series rooted in the sci-fi universe of Stranger Things.
In a statement posted on Monday, Netflix announced the series, but provided very little information, including no title or premiere date.
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving,” the Duffer brothers, creators of the original Stranger Things series, said in the statement.
When Stranger Thing made its Netflix premiere in 2016, it quickly rose to the top of the list of all English-language shows. A group of adolescents fight strange occurrences in the show’s fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.
A Stranger Things spinoff series and a play with a November opening in London’s West End were both previously confirmed by Netflix.
