YouTube is now trying out a number of new podcasting technologies, which represents another big step in the company’s expansion of its podcasting capabilities.
Last Monday, YouTube discreetly unveiled its most recent “feature experiment,” which aims to test out new podcasting features. All the elements needed by creators to publish podcasts on the platform will be included in these tools, from uploading to displaying analytical data.
The new tools that YouTube is testing will enable producers to upload their podcasts under the “create” button, which at the moment only provides options for starting a live broadcast, posting text, and uploading videos.
In the content menu’s new “Podcasts tab,” creators can now access podcasts. A new selection in the three-dot menu allows for the designation of existing playlists as podcasts as well.
Additionally, YouTube Studio will display podcast data such as performance, audience size, and income insights, at least on desktop.
However, YouTube has made it clear that only a select few producers, and those only on desktop, will be able to observe these changes.
The action is consistent with YouTube’s podcasting goals, which were alluded to in 2021 by stolen PowerPoint slides that described the company’s strategies. In 2022, YouTube created a page specifically for podcasts, and a few years later, it published a handbook outlining the platform’s best practises for podcasting.
If successful, this most recent test might pave the way for a wider release of the new podcasting tools, which would be a huge step toward YouTube’s podcasting aspirations.
