Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Shah Khawar as the interim PCB chief, effective immediately. Khawar, who is also the Election Commissioner of the PCB, has taken charge and arrived at the PCB headquarters in Lahore, where he was welcomed by PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, directors, and other staff members.

Khawar will now oversee the PCB elections. Mohsin Naqvi, the current nominee for PCB chief, will work as a member of the governing board. The announcement of the formation of the Board of Governors will be made soon. Naqvi will contest for the position of Chairman and is set to serve as the new Chairman for three years if elected. The elections are expected to take place within a month.

Expressing his gratitude towards the PCB Patron, Mr. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Khawar said, “My primary responsibility will be to hold the election of Chairman PCB in a free and transparent manner at the earliest.” He further added that it is a great honor and responsibility to lead one of the most prestigious cricket boards in the world.

Khawar, a former judge of the Lahore High Court, has vast experience working in the legal system of Pakistan. He has previously served as the Senior Vice-President of the Lahore High Court Bar Association and also as the President of the Pakistan Bar Council.

The appointment of Khawar as the interim PCB chief comes after the resignation of former Chairman Ehsan Mani, who stepped down from his position on 31st August 2021 after completing his three-year tenure.

The PCB is considered one of the most prestigious cricket boards in the world, and the upcoming elections will play a significant role in shaping the future of Pakistan cricket. With Khawar at the helm, the PCB expects to conduct the elections fairly and transparently.
