We’ve seen a resurgence of the strong female lead in recent years. Why not watch something where the main heroine isn’t a damsel in distress?
Sinf-e-Ahan:
Sinf-e-Aahan included seven female leads and was one of the top 2021-2022 dramas that we suggest to everyone. It’s a show for everyone, but especially for young people who don’t want to follow the conventional job path.
Sajal Aly, Yumna Zaidi, Ramsha Khan, Kubra Khan, Syra Yousuf, Dananeer Mobeen, and Yehali Tashiya Kalidasa feature in the show. The seven actors take the test in order to join the Pakistan Army. Each woman has a unique tale to share, as well as accomplishments that are impressive in their own right. The PMA experiences, friendship, bonding, and message with each character’s personality and tale were exactly what Pakistani TV was missing.
Zindagi Gulzar Hai:
Seeing a powerful lady in a 2012 show was an unforgettable experience. Zindagi Gulzar Hai was about Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed as a couple for some, but it was all about Kashaf Murtaza who won our hearts over and over.
Her forceful personality, but also her discussions, captivated our hearts. “They only like a woman for selfish reasons,” she stated on the show, and it stuck with us. Zindagi Gulzar Hai emphasises gender stereotyping as well as the socioeconomic gap between Kashaf and Zaroon Junaid.
Dobara:
Hadiqa Kiani portrayed Mehrunnisa in the TV drama Dobara, where she played a widow who must confront society’s disdain in the first episode. Mehrunnisa can now enjoy her life free of the constraints imposed by her late spouse.
Dobara is a show dedicated to any women who have ever felt confined or helpless. It also depicts the stigma attached to a lady marrying someone younger than her. Her character demonstrated that plays with female leads may be tremendously popular if done correctly.
Kuch Ankahi:
According to the teaser and posters, Kuch Ankahi is about a woman and a man who quarrel day and night but end up together in the end. However, the TV drama goes much beyond the usual Ramazan serial tropes. It is about a full family, not just one man and one lady.
Sajal Aly plays Aaliya, and Bilal Abbas Khan plays Salman in Kuch Ankahi. It’s about the various levels of struggle that every woman confronts.
From Samiya’s struggle to get married while constantly being pressured about her age, Aaliya trying to make ends meet so she can pay off her father’s siblings over their house dispute and Tanya following her dreams to become a filmmaker, Kuch Ankahi depicts a true family in the best way possible, one that everyone can relate with while also having a few laughs.
It’s still airing, so you will only be able to binge-watch five episodes — the fifth is airing on Saturday.
Ghisi Piti Mohabbat:
Another one of Ramsha’s dramas to make it to our list is 2020’s Ghisi Piti Mohabbat. The drama may have had the spice and suspense you need to get hooked, but for us it was Samia’s storyline in which she learns that there are bigger things in life than marriage.
Each of her marriages, one with Wahaj Ali’s Rizwan and the other with Ali Abbas’ Basharat, teaches her a lesson to rely on herself and become a woman who is strong-headed and independent when it comes to taking care of herself, financially and emotionally.
